Golf Injuries

There’s nothing worse for a golfer than reoccurring pain whether it’s in the back, neck or any other region. Most golfers at one time or another will live with aches and pains for weeks which are likely to get worse and delay or even stop golfers from playing. These types of golf injuries are usually associated with limited rotation of the trunk or neck and if not dealt with promptly can have a knock on effect on the hips, knees or elbows.  If a golfer can improve their rotation it should improve their pain and therefore improve their swing. There are many treatments and self help advice out there for golfers that have these persistent aches, even simple stretches and exercises can help alleviate the pain and stiffness that is usually associated with golf.

Lockers - Make Sure Your Golf Equipment Is Covered

Lockers are a very convenient way of storing your golf equipment but an equally attractive proposition to thieves who target golf club changing rooms.

Golfplan Insurance reports that thefts from lockers at golf clubs are becoming more frequent. Typical thieves can be a casual individual who may be targeting a single club or an unattended bag. Worse still, there have been reports of gangs in some parts of the UK who will target clubs and wipe out a locker room in a matter of minutes.

What can you do to stop this? Be vigilant, be on the look out for strangers behaving suspiciously and if you keep your clubs in a locker make sure it’s always locked. If you have a pass code, keep it to yourself and only hold the door open to someone you know. Don’t be afraid of asking someone if they are a member or if they are lost.

Locking your clubs in a locker is a good start but in the unfortunate event that your clubs are stolen it is better to make sure your clubs are insured.

£250,000 Scratch Golf Challenge for Afghan Heroes

An exciting new clubhouse and online golf game is to be launched across Britain’s 2000 golf clubs in 2011 to raise funds for the Afghan Heroes charity that helps troops serving in Afghanistan and their families.

Golfplan, the leading international golf insurance provider, is sponsoring the promotion, which will see over one million free scratchcards distributed to participating clubs around the country.

Golfers scratch off the free to enter cards to play the front-9 holes of the scratch golf challenge. If they score par they will be given a code to log on to Afghan Heroes and play the back nine holes in return for a small donation direct to the charity.  A prize fund comprising golf holidays and over 1 Million golf related prizes and vouchers, will be played for in the online game.

Ron Channon, managing director of Golfplan said: “Everyone appreciates the work the British forces are doing in Afghanistan. We hope British golfers will also want to do all they can for the families of the fallen. The promotion will enjoy exposure to over 4 million British golfers and a 15% take-up could raise in excess of £140,000.

“Golfplan is delighted to sponsor this campaign which gives us the opportunity to spread the word regarding the importance of individual golf insurance which provides worldwide protection to UK golfers, while at the same time helping raise some significant funds for the charity.”

Details of prizes will be announced in the New Year with over 2000 golf clubs and up to 1 million golfers participating in the fund-raising initiative. The scratchcards will be in clubhouses before 1 April 2011, when the digital back-9 holes will go live at www.afghanheroesgolf.com
And the golf club from where the lowest under par score scratchcard was picked up from will be presented with a £7,000 Club Car buggy or utility vehicle.

Denise Harris, founder of Afghan Heroes said: “Some of the soldiers enjoy setting up their own games of golf. It is certainly one of the things they look forward to when returning to the greenery of home when they get back on leave.

“We hope that golfers everywhere have fun with the game and see it as a great way to support our troops while relaxing in the clubhouse.”
Afghan Heroes was formed in 2009 by a group of mothers who had all lost sons in Afghanistan. It is dedicated to helping all those affected by the conflict and in early 2010 sent a comfort box to every serving soldier in Afghanistan.

The first of a number of holiday homes has been opened for use by families of the fallen and our returning soldiers, equipment has been provided to Selly Oaks and Headley Court rehabilitation centre where injured soldiers are recovering in the UK.
